Josh’s 1st Oscar Night
February 27th, 2011Oscar night the first for Hutcherson.
On Jan. 25, Union, Ky. native Josh Hutcherson was in North Carolina, working on the sequel to 2008′s “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” when the text messages and phone calls started pouring in. Lots of them, all at once.
The news: “The Kids are All Right,” the low-budget film about a lesbian couple’s children who are searching for their sperm-donor father, had scored four Oscar nominations: Best picture, best original screenplay (Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg), best leading actress (Annette Bening) and best supporting actor (Mark Ruffalo). Hutcherson plays Laser, the son of the couple played by Bening and Julianne Moore, in the Focus Features film.
“It was a very exciting moment,” said Hutcherson, 18.

Josh’s New Movie “Detention” will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival
February 2nd, 2011Joseph Kahn’s “Detention” starring Josh Hutcherson will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas in March.

“Detention”
This film is second feature film by Joseph Kahn, perhaps best known for helming Britney Spears’ “Toxic” video and 2004’s “Torque.” That’s quite a resumé. Anyway, the film features the unlikely pairing of Josh Hutcherson (”The Kids Are All Right”) and Dane Cook (huh?) in the film about a downtrodden 17-year-old girl who is sent to detention where she must survive a slasher film killer and save the world in time for prom. OK, then. Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke and Aaron David Johnson also star.
